Digital content producers all over the world are choosing the Evo shared storage system.

They've discovered that it offers the perfect blend of price, performance, connectivity and expandability for their organization. Evo combines a high-performance, purpose-built storage array with the most extensive connectivity options available for digital video shared storage.

Connectivity

Evo includes both Fibre Channel and Ethernet, which isn't something you'll find in most storage systems.

This means you'll have access right out of the box to both volume sharing SAN storage and file locking NAS features, which provides ultimate flexibility and storage consolidation for your digital video post production workflow.

You can even repurpose older storage, such as an Xserve RAID, with Evo's built-in FC-to-Ethernet bridging capabilities!

Compatibility

Video formats — Uncompressed, Animation, ProRes, DNxHD, RED/R3D, DVCProHD, XDCAM, DV, HDV — have very different performance needs, in terms of not only bandwidth but also disk spindles. Some require more complex disk configurations, especially in a shared storage environment.

We test and optimize for peak performance with the leading codecs and applications, assuring compatibility with your needs.

Performance

Our customers love to push the envelope, so Evo supports the most demanding video such as 2K and 10-bit uncompressed HD through any of its Fibre Channel SAN ports.

Notebooks, iMacs, and other Gigabit Ethernet-based computers can also connect to Evo and do up to 8-bit uncompressed HD or multiple streams of OfflineRT and formats such as ProRes and DNxHD using Evo's built-in Ethernet ports.

Multiple ports can even be added together to increase performance, and Evo can be optionally upgraded to 10Gb Ethernet for projects that need access to the biggest available pipe.

Sharing

Stop wasting time copying huge files! Evo enables each user to capture, edit, share, and play in real-time — all on central storage — while providing fast access to shared media and other assets from every suite.

How'd we get these numbers?

If you're comparing specs with other storage systems, the first thing to note is that unlike other manufacturers, we actually fill our disks to at least 50% capacity, then we start the real tests. That's important, because it's easy to get higher numbers on new, barely used disks. So, the numbers in our stream chart represent a much harder test — they show what you can expect from an Evo after extensive use, not just what you'll get when it's fresh out of the box.

For the ProRes HQ and Uncompressed HD tests we capture many individual 10, 30 and 60 minute clips using several Mac Pro workstations and Final Cut Pro. The clips are stacked in the timeline, mercilessly chopped up, and edited with transitions/dissolves while random starts, stops and srubs are performed on the workstations. (We also run Finder copies during captures and playback!) After that, the tests loop continuously over several days.

RAID 5 — not RAID 50 — was used in all cases. Testing was conducted March 2010 using Evo 2.1 OS with preproduction hardware components, four models of Mac Pro 10.6.2 workstations direct-attached with 4Gbps Fibre Channel, SANmp 3.1, Final Cut Pro 7 and simultaneous unique 10, 15, 30, 60 or 180 minute clips. For good measure, we also used AJA System Test at 16GB File Size, producing averages from several workstations. (16 disks = 2 x 8 disk pools)

Why Studio Network Solutions?

We're not just "box pushers."

We take the time to understand your requirements, ensuring your new system flawlessly delivers the performance your users need right from the day it's installed. We do this because we know that great shared storage performance doesn't come from bandwidth alone.

No other company provides such a comprehensive, supported storage solution for multimedia workflows. Not only do we provide the storage system and sharing software, we also offer our SNS Ellipse Fibre Channel adapters and globalSAN iSCSI initiator. More components from one manufacturer means better integration, and a better support experience if it's needed.

Compare, and you'll discover that the Evo shared storage solution lets you accommodate more users at less cost, with unparalleled flexibility, integration and connectivity.

Plus, it's all supported by our highly regarded technical support team. Even at 2am.
