(SNS) a leading provider of post-production storage solutions for video and audio workgroups, today announced the worldwide introduction of globalSAN Xtarget Storage Server Software for Mac OS X and additional enhancements to its flagship EVO Shared Storage Server in EVO v4.
Xtarget is a new component of SNS’s pioneering globalSAN iSCSI Initiator for Mac OS X. A Creative COW NAB 2012 Blue Ribbon Winner, Xtarget is the only software built for Mac OS X that enables customers to inexpensively transform an Intel Mac into an iSCSI SAN storage server. Users can connect Thunderbolt, USB, and FireWire DAS (Direct Attach Storage) devices to a Mac with Xtarget installed then present the storage over Ethernet as iSCSI devices, which can then be shared using Xsan.

Xtarget is compatible with any Intel Mac running OS X 10.6.8 through Mountain Lion. It can be used with FireWire, Thunderbolt, USB, eSATA, Fibre Channel, and SAS disks. Xtarget is additionally compatible with Xsan, iSANmp, and other similar sharing software to accommodate multiple users sharing common pools of storage.
Xtarget Storage Server is available immediately for $899 USD. A 14-day trial can be installed by downloading the globalSAN package from the SNS website, www.studionetworksolutions.com.
The latest release for SNS’s popular EVO SAN + NAS shared storage server offers a host of user-oriented new features that simplify collaboration and optimize workflow, including bin/project sharing for Avid Media Composer and project sharing for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 via EVO’s new Share Browser Interface.
