Studio Network Solutions (SNS) Showcases Major EVO Upgrades, New ShareBrowser Version at IBC 2018

Studio Network Solutions announces new integrations for DaVinci Resolve 15 and Adobe Premiere Pro, AI-powered media management for the EVO shared storage product line.

Studio Network Solutions (SNS), a leading manufacturer of shared storage hardware and software designed to help video teams store, share, and organize media, today announced the release of EVO version 6 and ShareBrowser version 5, as well as an upcoming feature that will be previewed at IBC 2018. The new releases include significant improvements to the EVO hardware platforms and OS, as well as numerous updates to EVO’s integrated media asset management software, ShareBrowser.

Studio Network Solutions’ IBC highlights include:

  • Redesigned high-performance system architecture
  • Increased performance with 4K, 6K, and 8K media
  • Automatic keyword tagging with AI
  • Support for SSD caching
  • Support for user defined metadata fields
  • Integrated Adobe® Premiere Pro® Panel for ShareBrowser
  • Hosted DaVinci Resolve database for simplified collaboration
  • ShareBrowser tags and keywords integration for Resolve Studio 15
  • Direct ingest support with Blackmagic Design capture cards

“We looked at every component of EVO to find new ways to bring professional post-production and broadcast teams better performance with fewer disks,” says Eric Newbauer, Studio Network Solutions Vice President, and CTO. “With the new v6 8-Bay and 16-Bay models, EVO is capable of incredibly high throughput, and post-production facilities can achieve up to 70% higher performance than with comparable shared storage systems.”

EVO is challenging the conception that high bandwidth workflows, like the ones found in VFX and finishing, require expensive and complicated SAN deployments. With expanded SSD support and 50Gb Ethernet configurations, version 6 EVO’s can support 16-bit 4K (DCI) DPX and OpenEXR workflows with just a single eight-disk system.

ShareBrowser, EVO’s integrated media asset management software, has also gotten significant upgrades for IBC 2018. ShareBrowser v5 will help post-production teams of all sizes get a head start on logging their media with artificial intelligence. Using AI auto-tagging will help teams eliminate hours of logging with just a single click, drastically reducing the time required to log a day’s shoot, organize a library of b-roll, or catalog archived projects.

AI auto-tagging allows users to automatically create searchable tags for their media with a single click.

SNS will be showcasing new integrations for DaVinci Resolve Studio 15 and Adobe Premiere Pro as well. Teams can now take full advantage of Resolve’s collaborative features by hosting the Resolve PostgreSQL database on EVO. They can also utilize Resolve’s powerful media management tools with a new metadata integration for ShareBrowser comments and keywords that lets editors bring their tags and comments from ShareBrowser into Resolve, so they can continue to leverage their metadata throughout the creative process.

SNS will also be previewing ShareBrowser for Adobe Premiere Pro CC, an Adobe Premiere Pro panel that will let teams easily search, tag, comment, and access media from ShareBrowser without leaving their Premiere Pro workspace.

Editors can use the ShareBrowser Panel to search, tag, comment, and access media from without leaving Adobe Premiere Pro.

“Your server is the center of your workflow, and it needs to be more than just a place to store your media. That’s why we’ve made built-in media asset management, automation, and NLE integrations the norm—not add-ons, bundles, or expensive third-party options,” says Newbauer. “It makes for a more integrated workflow, and a more cost-effective solution that’s easier to use and maintain.”

Other notable EVO and ShareBrowser updates for IBC include:

  • Dozens of GUI enhancements and design improvements
  • Public API for ShareBrowser
  • Activity Directory improvements for 10,000-100,000+ users
  • Major optimizations of the ShareBrowser server-side indexer
  • Improvements for NDI-based production workflows

EVO v6 is now shipping worldwide on all new systems, and ShareBrowser v5 is included at no additional cost with all new EVO systems. Visitors to IBC 2018 can demo the latest versions of EVO and ShareBrowser at stand #7.A44 in the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam on September 14-18th.
